NAMSS LEADERSHIP COUNCIL RETREAT

The NAMSS Leadership Conference was held in San Antonio in January.
I had
the pleasure of attending, along with Michelle Blessett,
President-Elect of
KAMSS. It was wonderful meeting the NAMSS Leadership Team, and
fellow
State Leaders.

The primary focus of
the meeting was to thoroughly review the Draft Strategic Plan. We had breakout
sessions designed to gain feedback from State Leaders, and NAMSS plans to
incorporate our suggestions and recommendations.
The plan is quite lengthy, so below I have highlighted some of the
existing opportunities ahead.
-
548 members
responded to the salary survey with a 10% response.
Results posted in March 2007.
-
Conducting job
analysis for the CPMSM exam. This will be done every 3-5 years.
-
Begin working on
a very different certification review course with a blended learning
approach. The course will include an instructional portion, followed with
on-line learning. Targeting next spring.
-
Develop sample
exam on-line to assist candidates with test taking.
-
Develop
mentoring program that will allow members to meet regularly with the mentor,
share perspectives about the industry, exchange ideas, discuss work
experiences, develop/exercise leadership skills and promote growth.
-
A communication
plan to healthcare organizations will be implemented to promote awareness of
NAMSS and recognition of the MSP position.
-
Create a NAMSS
online learning portal.
-
Review other
organization education programs, and work on professional development
courses.
-
Explore the
feasibility of developing additional certification levels through market and
stakeholder analyses.
-
Provide website
access for employers/other interested parties to verify NAMSS certificate
certification information.
-
Provide state
website support.
-
Conduct a
Members Needs Assessment Survey.
Target August 2007.
-
Promote the
Member Get-A-Member program. Way to
reward yourself with gifts while spreading the work about NAMSS.
Include individual, state and grand prize rewards.
-
Provide
promotional support materials for Doctor’s Day and NAMSS Week.
-
Develop a
volunteer recognition system with established rewards.
-
Develop NAMSS
style guide for all written communications.
-
Work to include
the Medical Staff Services position in the Department of Labor Standardized
Occupational Classification Listings. Target July 2007.
I believe it’s
important to partner with NAMSS, and with our collaborative efforts it will help
make our chapter much stronger. We have opportunities to grow our membership,
build on our communication efforts with current members, promote growth and
provide support by encouraging members to seek NAMSS certification, and
transition our website to the new State Manager service from NAMSS.
Our
association began putting together a Strategic Plan, which is still in draft
format. Please let us know if you
have an interest in providing ideas or serving on a committee to complete this
project.
Thank you for all
you do, and remember that you will always have a large support group to remind
you of how valued you are.
